Care Guide For Your Keepsakes

Like so many precious keepsakes, jewellery needs your love and care to keep your pieces beautiful for years to come.

Your Ellie Jade Jewellery pieces are crafted to last a lifetime, and whilst durable, it is also delicate and should be treated with care and respect. Over time, all jewellery will naturally wear and tear with use over time. Your piece will evolve and transform, its character will change as you wear it.

Below I have listed our best tips for storing and caring for your jewellery pieces.

STORING YOUR JEWELLERY

It is important to keep your gold-plated and silver pieces of jewellery in a cool, dry place such as a jewellery box. We recommend using a soft jewellery box and keeping different metals separate. This is to avoid any tarnishing on your pieces.

PROTECTING YOUR PIECES

We advise you to remove all jewellery when coming into contact with water, exercising or entering chlorinated swimming pools. Avoid any chemicals that can damage your pieces including perfumes, creams, cleaning products ect. It is recommended to take pieces of when using any lotions or chemicals to be safe and to prevent tarnishing. This is best advised for all metals including 925 sterling silver, gold and especially gold-plated items. Scratches and small dents are not considered a defect, but just a sign of normal wear and tear.

CARE

Most of our jewellery is designed to be worn every day but depending on the metal variations we may recommend your piece is more suitable as ‘occasion wear’. The best and safest way we recommend to clean your jewellery is to use a soft cloth. One of the best ways to keep on top of your pieces over time is to have them cleaned with a professional.

SOLID GOLD

Solid Gold is our best option for wanting to wear your keepsakes at all times. Whilst you can shower and sleep in your solid gold pieces, we recommend keeping them away from any harsh cleaning products or perfumes.

SILVER

When you are not wearing your silver jewellery, store it in a cool and dry place. Silver can become discoloured if submerged in chlorinated water, so it's always best to take it off before going swimming or bathing.

GOLD-PLATED

A wonderful way to add a touch of gold to your style, our gold-plated jewellery is plated over recycled 925 Sterling Silver. All pieces are gold plated with 3 microns thick - a good standard for most good quality jewellery meaning it should last a good amount of time. Whilst it can last over longer periods of time with the proper care, all gold plating will gradually fade with time. To prolong the lasting gold effects, I recommend using a soft microfibre cloth to remove dirt when necessary. I do not recommend using any cleaning chemicals as frequent cleaning and polishing can wear the plating down quickly, so only clean if needed. I also recommend reading the 'Protecting Your Pieces' on this page to further care for your gold-plated items. Plating fading is not refundable or exchangable as this occurs with natural wear and tear with use over time.

GEMSTONES

All our diamonds and precious gemstones are natural and sourced with great care. To prevent any damage, we recommend avoiding perfumes and cosmetics or any household chemicals. To clean your gemstones, we recommend using a clean, soft, damp cloth when needed.
